New Launch: Bay Village Recreation Center
January 29, 2003
Cleveland, Ohio; January 29, 2003 - Residents of Bay Village now have a convenient, online resource to turn to when looking for recreation programs. The City of Bay Village Recreation Department re-launched a cutting edge Web site - www.bayrec.org - in early January. The Recreation Department offers a wide variety of recreation programs that they continually expand and revise in response to resident interests.
"From the convenience of their home or office, our citizens can learn about and register for the diverse number of activities and programs offered by the Bay Recreation Department by visiting the Web site any day of the week," said Helen Hoke, Assistant to Director of Law, City of Bay Village. "Our goal was to make the experience of registering and paying for programs both pleasant and time effective, and that process is now easier than ever."
Bay residents logged on to register the weekend the site launched. Designed and developed by the local Web development firm Western Reserve Internet Services, Inc. (WRIS), www.bayrec.org now features: - Online registration for classes, community events, and Pool and Fitness Center memberships;
- The complete 32-page Winter/Spring Program brochure which can be downloaded in a PDF format;
- Program offerings displayed in list as well as a monthly Calendar format (searchable by categories);
- A separate Youth Center calendar;
- Interactive maps for all City recreation facilities;
- Maps of hike, bike and run routes including some common travel distances;
- The option of receiving an email newsletter as well as email courtesy reminders prior to the commencement of courses for which the user has registered;
- A Content Management tool backing the site which allows the Recreation Department staff to maintain a fresh site with the most current information; and,
- A scrapbook with photos of past community and sports events.
The registration process is simple, and the easy-to-follow instructions will guide the registrant through the process. As he or she enters information for each program, selections are stored in a Registration Cart that organizes and displays an inventory of the items chosen. Items can be added, edited and deleted to and from the Registration Cart at any time before the final Check Out process. After the registrant approves, the registration and credit card payment will be processed through a secured server and confirmed by email.
The Content Manager is database driven and user-friendly so that the administrative staff can add and cancel programs, view lists of the individuals registered for each program, and manually enter information for mail-in or walk-in registrants. Programs for future seasons can also be viewed on the site.
WRIS designed the new site to complement the clean look and feel of the City of Bay Village Web site (www.cityofbayvillage.com), also designed by WRIS. Future phases planned for bayrec.org include expanded reporting capabilities and more detailed administrative tools for the staff and instructors to manage program information.
The City of Bay Village Recreation Department coordinates all city-sponsored recreational activities, programs and facilities within Bay Village. It also works closely with sports related clubs such as the Bay Soccer Club, Bay Men's Club Baseball and the Girls Softball Club to coordinate facility use and program schedules.
