Bruening Foundation Web Site Wins Award
April 30, 2004
WASHINGTON, DC, April 30, 2004 – The Eva L. and Joseph M. Bruening Foundation web site, designed and developed by WRIS, Inc., received a Gold Award in the web sites category in the 2004 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards for Excellence in Communications. The award was presented by The Council on Foundations and The Communications Network at the Council's 55th Annual Conference in Toronto, April 26-28.
The Bruening Foundation web site received top honors in the independent, family and operating foundations category (assets $21 – 100 million and $5 – 20 million) and was described as “extremely sleek in its organization, clear, concise and to the point – just what the Web should be,” by the judges. The Bruening Foundation is one of several foundations managed by Foundation Management Services, Inc. of Cleveland, a long-time client of WRIS.
The Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program recognizes and encourages excellence in communications by grantmaking foundations and corporate giving programs. The awards showcase the ways foundations and corporate giving programs use communications strategies and techniques to advance the goals of their grantmaking.
In addition, the awards program seeks to educate the field of organized philanthropy about creative and strategic communications. Through case studies, articles and other outreach efforts, the Council on Foundations and the Communications Network will highlight the award-winning programs, explaining strategies and techniques that can inform the work of other grantmakers.
The award categories for 2004 are annual or biennial reports, newsletters, public policy campaigns, special reports and websites. Judges evaluated entries based on the following criteria: overall outcomes/impact, message and design effectiveness, organization of content and outreach/distribution strategies. The 54 judges represented a range of professional skills, including communications, foundation and nonprofit management, graphic design, photography, writing and website development.
